My closet is small on purpose. Ten pieces do almost all the work, and everything else is a guest. These are the ten I would buy again tomorrow, and why each one earns its place.
The outer layers
Camel wool coat. It makes jeans look intentional and a dress look effortless.
Black blazer. Slightly oversized, so it layers over a knit in winter.
Beige trench. Spring, fall and every rainy day in between.
The tops
White tee. Heavy cotton, never see-through. Buy two.
Breton striped top. The most Parisian thing I own, and the easiest.
Oversized grey knit. Tucked in front only, sleeves pushed up.
The bottoms and shoes
Straight dark jeans. Ankle length, so the shoe always shows.
Cream wide-leg trousers. They look expensive with everything.
Black slip skirt. Sneakers by day, heels by night.
Black loafers. The shoe that goes with all ten.
